The most powerful military in the world in the hands of Trump understandably frightens and intimidates. He has been active domestically and now internationally with his tactics. He spreads confusion and then tries something else. But it may all be part of, as Blackadder said, a cunning plan.
There is still inadequate information about the invasion of Venezuela to make clear analytic choices. If we use south American information https://www.telesurenglish.net/venezuela-economic-recovery-2025/, The attack was made to derail a recovering Venezuelan economy which had been under attack for the last years by the USA.
If we use the White House’s own policy https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/2025-National-Security-Strategy.pdf it is just part of advancing the Monroe Doctrine of 1823 where the USA opposes all foreign intervention in the western hemisphere in favour of their own. Teddy Roosevelt reenforced this in his 1901 “Speak softly and carry a big stick ….” but used the troops to invade various south American countries before and after this. In fact the USA has continued to undermine governments, and use subterfuge, along with their military to take control of at least 18 south American countries in the last 150 years.
So, what’s going on now?
It is not a humanitarian, barely political, mainly a economic action supporting the failing USA regime.
The precision military invasion of Venezuela https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cp37yr2xq7no started with CIA intelligence work last year. The regular seizure of oil tankers https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2kv2gn62vo further attempts to destabilise Cuba, a long-term irritation of the USA, with oil deprivation. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2kv2gn62vo. Their 70-year boycott and blockade of goods to Cuba has only shown Cuba having higher literacy than the USA along with productive medical education and finding ways to create a stable economy around the deprivations. Professor David Suzuki’s Expedition Magazine | Cuba: The Accidental Revolution depicts some of this.
So, we are left with the USA selling Venezuelan oil and planning to take over their oil fields. Making trillions of dollars for Trump’s friends ($18 to 35 trillion https://www.forbes.com/sites/joelshulman/2026/01/03/venezuelas-oil-could-be-worth-as-much-as-the-magnificent-seven/). Lots of money while pretending it’s about morality and principles.
Next comes Greenland with threats to invade it so that the USA can protect itself against Russian invasion. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/videos/cd9ey81441jo Ridiculous! What about all the minerals and rare elements there? https://www.mining.com/web/factbox-greenlands-rich-but-largely-untapped-mineral-resources/
Trump’s apparent irrational and whimsical states make more sense when it deals with clear resource takeover and direct profit. What countries are next? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cd0ye72r4vpo
The Trickster keeps us unbalanced through creating chaos. We become unable to make rational plan constantly undermined by new threats. Trump as President can use military might to create great disasters without requiring any approval from his congress (true as long as he doesn’t declare war) and ignoring legitimate bodies like the UN, OAS (Organisation of American States), NATO.
Does Canadian Carney Davos speech draw the line in the sand with his hope for a coalition of the middle powers to oppose those actions and intentions? Is he serious about creating a new order… what type?
